There was a news report this week on a flower from the Ice Age that Russia was able to revive: http://tinyurl.com/6ptqkf9 Whether or not this story is true, why is it that reviving living things is so intriguing to us? When we lose things, it is often in those times, when we realize how important those things were to us. I am constantly reminded to be grateful for the things, people, and blessings I have in my every day life. It is not common to be able to have dear things revived. I hope you are grateful for what you have, and also that you have time to make that gratefulness known to those who need to hear it if the things you are grateful for are people. Time, is the most precious commodity in this life. Let's not waste it.
Did you know that change is not only hard for humans, but it is also hard for plants? Change for the Porcelain Flower plant is deathly. This blog is the story of my Porcelain Flower plant. Its story of perseverance, strength, and rebirth after moving 2,300 miles from its home. The plant which started as a parting gift, has become an inspiration for my everyday life. Join me in celebrating its beautiful comeback story.

Sometimes the biggest mistake we can make, is not starting. The two new buds are emerging where they typically emerge. So, there will be a stem coming from this area. However, the interesting part, is to view that there is still a bud for where a leaf should have been. It makes me think that there might be a leaf there in a few months. It will be fun to see if it comes.

Ann Voskamp writes in her book, One Thousand Gifts, "I may have always known that change takes real intentionality, like a woman bent over her garden beds every day with a spade and the determined will to grow up something good to strengthen the heart."
Something good to strengthen the heart. That is exactly what this plant does for my heart every day. The new leaf that is growing in the spot of the old leaf is now larger than any of the leaves next to it. It is actually rubbing against the others, fighting for space and a place where it, too, can receive light.

This is the leaf that grew out of the spot where the one leaf fell off months back. It is interesting that only one leaf grew in this spot. Maybe it is in the genetic code, because it grew where one leaf fell off, maybe it can only grow one leaf there. I don't know =) But I have noticed that the plant grows leafs in pairs everywhere else except here. At the base of this leaf, you can see that it might grow a stem of its own coming out of this leaf. Look at the gorgeous color contrast between the leaves and the pot. So beautiful =)
